Treating Algae on Pool Floor

Posted on 18th Mar 2011 @ 11:15 AM

Algae on the bottom of your pool floor is a common problem, particularly in the Wet Season and if the chlorine levels are not maintained.

It is simple to treat, follow the steps below:

  • Turn the filter off until the water stops moving
  • Then broadcast dry chlorine over the effected area
  • Next day, brush and gently vacumn to waste any residue left around the effected area and retreat anything missed in the first treatment
  • Test your pool to ensure that the chlorine level is between 3 and 5
  • Follow up this treament with a water test and a treatment of a quality algaecide

For the long term management of this problem,

  • maintain a constant chlorine level of between 3 and 5
  • using a quality algaecide like Pool Drops or Black & Green Algaecide
