With the arrival of the build up and warmer weather in the tropics, the chlorine levels in your pool are being put under pressure. With low chlorine levels, algae will take over your pool considerably quicker than normal, turning it green.
If your pool is salt water, the chlorinator must be turned up to 100% output and the filtration time should be increased. An increased time frame for a standard 40,000 litre pool filtration should be 3.5 hours in the morning, 1 hour at lunch time and 3.5 hours in the evening.
A chlorine water pool should have daily doses of chlorine from hereon. If you miss one day, double the dose the next day – if you miss more than three days you must super chlorinate with five times the normal dose to bring back the standard chlorine levels.
Regular water testing of both systems is advised to ensure the levels remain between 1 and 5. As we live in the tropics it is better to maintain a slightly higher chlorine level consistently. The warmer the water temperature, the quicker the chlorine is used up.
Save money - maintaining consistent chlorine levels and filtration times will, overall reduce your expenses for your pool!
